Wedding Experience & FAQs – Editorial, Documentary, and Refined
What’s it like working with you?
Relaxed, mostly. I'm not big on rigid posing or over-direction. I'll give you enough to work with and then get out of your way. The best stuff tends to happen in the space between prompts; When you forget I'm there and just exist with each other
Do you shoot alone or bring a second shooter?
Most days, it’s just me. I prefer it that way. It keeps things personal and unobtrusive. But if your day calls for wider coverage or multiple perspectives, I’ll bring on a trusted second photographer. Whatever best serves your story.
Will we chat before the big day?
Yes. At minimum we'll do an intro call after booking and touch base closer to the date. I want to know how your day is structured, what matters to you, who I should be paying attention to, and what you had for breakfast. The more I know going in, the less you have to think about on the day itself.
“We’re awkward in front of the camera…”
The goal isn't to make you look like you're comfortable. It's to actually get you there. And that usually takes about ten minutes. After that, most people forget about the camera entirely, which is exactly when the real photographs start. And if you’re feeling extra unsure, just focus on loving each other, that’s where your magic lives.
How do you handle low light or difficult conditions?
It's part of the job. Dark reception halls, midday sun, overcast skies. As a photographer, part of my work is knowing how to use my camera. I'm not looking for perfect conditions, I'm working with whatever is there and adjusting my settings accordingly. Some of my favorite images have come from the least cooperative light.
Do you do traditional posed family formals?
Yes! Because they matter. Contrary to my philosophy, posed-formal photos end up on walls and in frames for decades. They're not the most spontaneous part of the day, but they're equally important. However, I will keep them tight and move through them efficiently because I know everyone's ready to get back to celebrating, not because they're an afterthought.
Do you travel?
I'm based in San Diego and shoot regularly in Minnesota. Beyond that, yes. Travel is part of it. Reach out and we'll figure out the logistics.
When do we get our photos and how?
Weddings are delivered within six to ten weeks; sessions within two to four.
You’ll receive a sneak peak within 48 hours. Final images will be sent through a private online gallery for easy viewing and sharing.
How far in advance should we book?
Most couples book six to twelve months out, especially for peak season weekends. If your date is sooner, reach out anyway. I'll let you know what's available.
